About the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
Founded in 1969, AST was established through a collaborative effort by professionals from the American College of Surgeons, American Hospital Association, and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses. As the premier professional organization for surgical technologists, AST stands at the forefront of one of America’s fastest-growing professions.

Growth & Future of Surgical Technology
The demand for skilled surgical technologists is soaring. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates significant growth in this field through 2030, driven largely by an increasing volume of surgeries and an expanding senior population.
Our Mission
AST’s mission is to uphold the highest standards of patient care delivered by surgical technologists. We focus on providing our 80,000+ members with the essential knowledge and skills for exceptional patient care. Governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, AST also has 50 state assemblies, which address local member needs and concerns.

We represent Colorado and Wyoming.
